We were asked by the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation to reinvigorate the floundering development process of what is now called Railyard Flats. A 42-unit apartment building located in the upper Santa Fe Railyard. After reviewing the development parameters, we developed two schematic design schemes that complied with municipal, developer, and railyard cooperation requirements. The developer was inspired, and the development process was reinvigorated and moved forward. Co-work was critical to the developer, and we envisioned shared space equivalent to the slice of wild undeveloped land you might remember from your childhood neighborhood. A bit of social collaborative mess surrounded by high density private residential, we affectionately called the co-work space “The mud pile”.
